Buying eco-friendly cleaning supplies is a good start, but for a truly green clean, make your own green cleaners you'll save a ton of money along the way.

Most of your home can be cleaned with recipes that are a combination of hot water, vinegar, and baking soda. Add a few drops of essential oil (peppermint or lavender) for a scent that will make your whole home smell great.

Also, aim for a no-waste clean. Trade paper towels for reusable cloths. Start with 2 microfiber cloths, 12 rags and 1 biodegradable sponge. Ditch the Swiffer for a mop with reusable microfiber pads.

Green cleaning recipes to get started:

Killer Cleaner - Use to kill germs in bathroom and kitchen areas.
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
1/2 cup vinegar
2 cups hot tap water
spray bottle.

All-Around Cleaner - Use on windows, mirrors, countertops, dusting and wet mopping.
1/2 -1 cup vinegar (depending on job)
3 cups hot water
5 drops essential oil
spray bottle or bucket.

Creamy Soft Scrubber - Use on sinks, bathtubs, toilet bowl.
1/2 cup of baking soda in a bowl
1/2 add water to make creamy texture
rough sponge or brush.
